The most successful people have priorities.
No one woke up today and suddenly discovered that they could run a marathon. That’s because running a marathon requires that you prioritize your time—you choose to use your limited time, focus, and energy on training for a marathon.
They follow three simple rules:
- Life has limits—you’ll never have the time to do everything you want to do.

What’s a priority?
Priorities are found at the intersection of time, choice, and values.
Your values are your decisions of what is most important to you.
Your time is the priceless gift each of us receives every day: 24 new, unused hours.
Your choice is to spend your time doing what you think is most important.
In other words, show us what you do all day, and we’ll know your priorities.
Which brings us to two more simple rules:
- You are what you take the time to become.
- You accomplish what you take the time to do.

Group your tasks using the “ABCs of Prioritization.”
A priority tasks represent your highest priorities. They are crucial, vital, critical. They give you the highest return on your investment of time and energy. Only give your top three priorities an A, and list them in importance: A1, A2, A3. These are the tasks you must complete today! (Link to Top Three info.)
B priority tasks are important. They should be done—but only after you’ve completed the As. List your B priorities in importance: B1, B2, B3… and so on.
C priority tasks come in last—for now. Cs could be done some time, but they’re strictly back burner stuff.
